In 2012, 30 Rock invented a series of traditions for February 29, including a charming figure called Leap Year William and blue and yellow decorations everywhere. It never caught on, but at least they tried.
Apparently, there are Leap Day traditions in other parts of the world. The lunar calendar used in China has relatively frequent leap months, with a host of traditions associated with it. I like the one where the children buy the parents shoes to thank their parents for raising them, and I am going to try to collect on that one. Especially because I need new sailing shoes anyway.
Beyond badgering my child, my plan is to go to the post office, do my month-end invoicing, and have dinner with a friend. All of these are fine things, but do they capture the potential of an extra day, even if it is in February?
What should we do for Leap Day?
Leap Day is my youngest son's birthday. today is his 7th birthday. We celebrated with him last weekend, so today, I am going to celebrate being the mother of a Leapling by getting some cute froggy-themed cupcakes from my local bakery.
Single women can ask a man to marry on Leap Day. I am a little past my prime but still great marriage material.
