Long time, no see
Yes, I still have this newsletter. Thank you for noticing that it's been missing from your inbox!
Although we are heading into a holiday extravaganza, with about a million celebrations and special events taking place from American Thanksgiving on November 28 to Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday on January 20, my schedule is actually easing up. The newsletter is back to a once a week schedule for now.
I’ll continue my thoughts on taxes soon (it’s all leading up to advice on how to make retirement withdrawals), but for today, I thought I’d post links to some interesting articles and news releases that came my way over the past month. I bookmarked them thinking I’d write newsletter articles based on them, but then life intervened.
Consider these do-it-yourself newsletter articles!
First up: Why people resist retirement (Harvard Business Review). One issue not mentioned by Harvard: a lot of people are worried about how much money they have in an inflationary world (Employee Benefit Research Institute).
What AI Sees in the Market (That You Might Not) (Chicago Booth Review). Some ideas for more experiments with Chat GPT.
An excellent joke:
Q: What’s orange and sounds like a parrot?
A: A carrot.
An easy, tasty vegan caramel sauce for Thanksgiving dessert.
Searching for Meg White (Elle): I just found out about this. The press-shy drummer for the White Stripes doesn’t really give interviews, but she remains influential. Hugely influential. I saw a great White Stripes show in Detroit before the band broke up.
Finally: I’m still playing around with AI, because it’s the future whether we like it or not. I asked Dall-E to create a picture based on what it thought I looked like. This is what I got. Maybe I should have given the GPT more details.
Alos, is Dall-E programmed to add extra fingers as a watermark, to make clear that the image was AI created? I’m starting to think that it is.
Have any suggestions for upcoming issues? Please share!
Thanks for the link to the article on Meg. Really enjoyed it.
