We’re about halfway through winter, and there are still plenty of cold days to spend inside reading.
Three good articles about different aspects of eldercare are:
Monster in Residency: How a writer turned full-time caregiving into a writers’ residency, in a way that worked well enough for her and for her mother. (Oldster Magazine)
Care out of the Closet: Many LGBTQ+ elders face problems getting long-term care that respects who they are. (The Baffler)
Advance driving directives: People are setting up terms for giving up driving, and notifying loved ones, long before they need to give up driving. (Washington Post gift link)
Because New Year’s resolutions may have been abandoned, it’s time to make Patti LaBelle’s macaroni and cheese (Washington Post gift link). The lady can sing and cook.
On the AI front, I recently learned about Perplexity.ai, a truly valuable search engine. It crawls through all of articles written to generate high Google rankings to come up with results that you can use, including sources. It’s really good. A little terrifying, too.
Finally, check out this great ad for Australian Lamb, the down-under equivalent of a Super Bowl ad.

I am saving the recipe! Sounds wonderful.
